Baby Goats Arrive at Harley Farms (Pescadero, CA)
http://etchedinpixels.com/photo/baby-goats-arrive-at-harley-farms-pescadero-ca/
Last weekend I headed over to the coastide to see the new kids born at
Pescadero's Harley Farms.
The farm dates back to 1910, when it was founded as a cow dairy. In subsequent
decades it fell into disuse. That is, until it was bought by Dee Harley in 1982.
A native of Yorkshire, England, she restored the property and grew her herd from
six goats all the way up to 200. This is the only working dairy in San Mateo
County. They sell a variety of products in their farm store, but the main
attraction is the cheese.

California Sunsets: Rolling Fog, Rolling Waves
http://etchedinpixels.com/photo/california-sunsets-rolling-fog-rolling-waves/
Normally I find myself fighting the fog and haze, but it really worked in this
first shot from yesterday. I love the way the mists gather in the California
coastal foothills.
The second image is from 2011. Land's End is a beautiful place to see the sunset
in San Francisco. [...]

Sunset Beach Concert in Half Moon Bay
http://etchedinpixels.com/photo/sunset-beach-concert-in-half-moon-bay/
The other day I heard about an art installation-cum-concert venue out at the
beach bluffs of Half Moon Bay, CA. Mauro Ffortissimo is a local musician,
metalworker, and yoga studio owner who, together with some friends, hauled an
old grand piano out to the cliffs one night two weeks ago. He's been giving
sunset concerts ever since. [...]
Why You Should Expose to the Right (And What that Means)
http://etchedinpixels.com/articles/guides/why-you-should-expose-to-the-right-and-what-that-means/
Lately I've been exposed (pun emphasized) to a lot of technical articles. I've
noticed a lot of unacceptable noise in the shadow regions, which I've come to
attribute to two factors: dynamic contrast features of the camera, combined with
non-linear distribution of data in the histogram. The problem with dynamic
contrast actually led me to discover [...]
Will Your Flash Last Forever? (From Strobist)
http://etchedinpixels.com/reposts/will-your-flash-last-forever-from-strobist/
The Strobist just posted an interesting article on how long your speedlight
might last. It's a good, sweet and short read over here.
Great article, I think everything you said makes sense, what with the
manufacturer testing being only the worst-case scenario.
Now the question is, does a cheap flash like the Yongnuo give you fewer firings

I just read an interesting article over at the ATMTX Photo Blog, "I'm a

in San Jose, CA shooting night photos when a security guard asked him to stop,
basically on the grounds that he was using a tripod and this made him [...]

The Art of Light and Long Exposure
http://etchedinpixels.com/2013/01/the-art-of-light-and-long-exposure/
Your visual system perceives the world as a series of images that are uniformly
integrated over a variable time period. Interesting things manifest when you
play with the integration period and treat the elements independently. Using
the camera, we can see into this gauzy, surreal realm.
Images are available here.

High Speed Photography Experiments
Etched in Pixels has posted a new item, 'High Speed Photography Experiments'
I've been having a blast with my new Nikon SB-700 speedlight. This evening I
used it for some high speed experiments to capture liquid in motion.
Most people know that short shutter speeds can be used to freeze motion, but you
usually only achieve 1/4000 of a second, and that's in bright daylight.
Think that's fast? A [...]

Etched in Pixels has posted a new item, 'Portrait Session: Lisa (or, "How I

Last weekend I went up to the city and, with my trusty lighting assistant (ie

friend Lisa. I salute her for being so game to let me try out a few
techniques I've been learning.
